Colombia is one of the most accessible countries in the world for Western men. The tourist visa is generous, extendable, and the country has added a Digital Nomad Visa option for men planning to work remotely.
Visa options and requirements
- Tourist entry: 90 days on arrival, no visa required for US, EU, UK, Canada, and most Western passports.
- Extension: extendable to 180 days total at Colombia's Migración office in Medellín (approx $55 fee).
- Digital Nomad Visa (DNV): minimum $684/month verifiable remote income. Valid 2 years. No Colombia tax obligation.
- Residency via investment: property purchase of $170K+ USD qualifies for residency visa.
- Pensioner visa: $750/month pension income qualifies. Popular with retirees.
- Colombia does not tax foreign-sourced income for the first 183 days of the year.
- Border run not required — Colombia is genuinely welcoming to long-term visitors.
- For US citizens: no FATCA complications. Colombian banks are accessible with US documents.
